About Solace Creations

Our Story

In 2006, our founder, Karen Porter, recognised a need for insulated windows and doors in Canberra’s climate. While operating a construction company, she saw first-hand how limited the options were for windows and doors, even in a climate known for scorching summers and icy winters. At the time, single glazing was the standard for both new and existing homes, leaving many Canberrans living in houses that were costly to heat and cool and very uncomfortable.

Drawing inspiration from international building practices, Karen realised just how transformative insulated windows and doors could be for Australian homes. Determined to bring this innovation to her clients, she launched Solace Creations from her home office offering uPVC frames in White or Cream and double glazed glass. What began as a small, pioneering venture grew into a dedicated showroom in Phillip, and later into our current state-of-the-art showroom in Fyshwick.

Karen’s passion has always been clear: to create homes that are more comfortable, energy-efficient, and sustainable. She has spent nearly two decades educating Canberrans on the importance of a well-sealed home asking the simple but powerful question: “Why insulate your walls, ceilings, and floors, but not your windows and doors?”

When Solace Creations began, uPVC was a widely unknown and underestimated material in Canberra. Today, thanks to its outstanding energy ratings, resilience under our harsh sun, and design flexibility, uPVC is finally gaining the recognition it deserves among builders and homeowners alike.

We are proud to have been part of this transformation. As Canberra embraces higher standards, with the introduction of 7-Star energy ratings, insulated windows and doors are no longer an afterthought – they are at the heart of building and renovating for the future.
