uPVC Window Accreditation: What it means for your home

October 15, 2026

A quick guide to the Industry Code of Practice, the Australian scheme that checks uPVC window frames are made to last in our harsh sun.

2 Years

minimum outdoor testing of every
accredited profile

15,000

MJ/m2 of sun exposure, nearly
double the typical European test

85%

more intense sun in Melbourne
than in southern France

What is it?

The Industry Code of Practice (ICP) is an accreditation scheme for the uPVC (vinyl) profiles used to make window and door frames in Australia. It was developed by the uPVC Window Alliance over two years, working with profile suppliers, window fabricators, the Australian Windows Association and the Vinyl Council of Australia.

Why Does it Matter in Australia?

Australia has the highest solar radiation per square metre of land of any continent. Frames that perform well overseas may not hold up here. The ICP gives you greater confidence that your frames will stay strong and will not discolour over time.

What is Tested?

  • Strict limits on colour change in the sun
  • Weathering resistance and impact strength
  • Material composition and polymer quality
  • No legacy additives containing lead or cadmium
  • Recycled PVC allowed only if it meets every requirement

How is it Tested?

  • Profiles are independently tested by a third party
  • Real outdoor exposure for at least two years
  • Done at Australia’s only natural outdoor weathering
    laboratory, near Townsville, Queensland
  • Works alongside AS 2047, the Australian Standard
    for complete windows

How to Check

Look for the licensed ICP accreditation mark, which identifies accredited uPVC profiles. You can also search the ICP Product Register at upvcwindows.org.au to see which companies and profiles are accredited.
